 Dear Saint Luke Families,

My name is Alyssa Roher and I am the reading specialist at Saint Luke School.  I have several years of experience working with students in grades K-8, and I am state certified in literacy.  I will be providing pull-out and push-in literacy support for students needing academic intervention. I will be working with students 1:1 and in small groups.

I believe learning should be purposeful and fun!   For early readers, I will be focusing on identifying letters and their sounds, sight words, fluency (good pacing and expression), and comprehension. For students who know their letters and sounds, I will be focusing on phonics (“word identification skills”- International Reading Association), sight words, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Please send in the following:

1 pack of 3x5 index cards

1 marble notebook

3 dry erase markers

Book of the month:

Today on Election Day by Catherine Stier is a wonderful book that is told from the children’s perspective.   It’s through the children’s different voices that the reader learns about the different types elections that occur on Election Day.
