Dear Saint Luke Families,
My name is Alyssa Roher and I am the reading specialist at Saint Luke School. I have several years of experience working with students in grades K-8, and I am state certified in literacy. I will be providing pull-out and push-in literacy support for students needing academic intervention. I will be working with students 1:1 and in small groups.
I believe learning should be purposeful and fun! For early readers, I will be focusing on identifying letters and their sounds, sight words, fluency (good pacing and expression), and comprehension. For students who know their letters and sounds, I will be focusing on phonics (“word identification skills”- International Reading Association), sight words, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Thank you for sending in notebooks, markers, and index cards. If you can send in1 ream of copy paper 8.5"x 11" (letter size) that would be greatly appreciated.
Book of the month:
David A. Adler's A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr. is a biography of Dr. King’s life from adolescence through adulthood. After reading this book, listen to Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream Speech” on youtube.com
I look forward to a great year working with you as we build a strong home-school connection! I will be working closely with the classroom teachers as we support our students. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 718.746.3833.
